The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, is preparing a regional proposal to address the migration crisis, for which he will meet with foreign ministers from the 10 countries with the largest exodus of migrants, the governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara, revealed this Monday after a meeting in the National Palace.

The proposal will be presented to President Joe Biden in November when the Mexican president is scheduled to meet with his American counterpart.

According to Jara’s statements to the media, at the end of the meeting at the National Palace, the meeting between President López Obrador would take place within two weeks with the foreign ministers of countries such as Guatemala, Honduras, Venezuela, Haiti and Cuba, among others. .

“This would be approximately 15 days so that, later, during the president’s next visit to the United States, the proposal will be made known,” he said.

On the Mexican side, in addition to the chancellor, Alicia Bárcena; the Secretary of the Interior, Luisa María Alcalde, would be present; the governors of entities in the south-southeast of the country and the high command of the Armed Forces.

The governor of Oaxaca, an entity in southeastern Mexico, said that the route they will trace is not yet defined, although he highlighted that the ideal would be for the United States to support the causes that generate migration from said countries with more resources.

“The United States has to allocate resources to care for these places where we have the greatest flow of migrants,” he said.

In addition, he said that the Mexican authorities and entities collaborate to guarantee orderly flows, while he highlighted that they are looking for a migrant care center to approach these foreigners.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), insecurity, violence and socioeconomic conditions are the main factors that influence thousands of migrants leaving their countries to cross Mexico and try to reach the United States.

He has also pointed out that the variety of nationalities of migrants crossing the country is increasing because more people are leaving their countries after the Covid-19 pandemic, which has caused a new wave of migration in the region.
