In an event that shook the Russian media, the death of Russian feminist and peace activist Anastasia Yemelyanova was reported in Turkey.

Anastasia Yemelyanova’s untimely death was confirmed by fellow activist Anastasia Polozkova, who shared the news on Instagram. According to Polozkova, Yemelyanova’s lifeless body was discovered in Turkey, where she lived.

Yemelyanova had disappeared earlier, causing concern among her friends and associates. Polozkova revealed that the activist had been missing for several days before her tragic discovery, according to The Moscow Times. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance and subsequent death are deeply suspicious.

Anastasia Yemelyanova was known for her passionate advocacy against domestic violence. She used her platform on the YouTube channel “Feministki Poyasnyayut” (“Feminists Explain”) to fervently campaign against this serious issue. Her dedication to this cause made her a respected figure among activists and supporters.

Polozkova stressed that Yemelyanova was meticulous about her safety and regularly informed her friends about her whereabouts and company. Disturbingly, Turkish authorities initially refused to file a missing person report, complicating the search for the activist.

Fiance arrested on murder charges

In a worrying turn of events, Yemelyanova’s fiancé, identified by his given name Nizar, has been arrested on charges of murder.

The couple had resided together in the eastern Turkish city of Erzurum, where Nizar completed his engineering studies. In particular, Nizar is reported to be a Syrian national who had moved to Turkey.

Russian diplomats and Turkish authorities are currently collaborating to facilitate the repatriation of Anastasia Yemelyanova’s body, allowing her family to say their final goodbyes.
