Hyundai and Kia are recalling around 3.37 million cars from the US market due to the risk of engine fire, Reuters reported.

Due to a mechanical failure, manufacturers are asking homeowners to park their units outside their homes and away from structures until repairs are complete.

According to manufacturers, internal leaks of brake fluid can cause an electrical short circuit that could result in a fire.

Kia models include 1.73 million units, including models:

· Sheep
· Cadence
· Strong
· Sportage
· K900
· Optimal
· Soul Rio
· Sorento
· Round

The recall covers multiple model years for each vehicle from 2010 to 2017.

For its part, Hyundai is recalling 1.64 million vehicles of different models:

Elantra
· Genesis Coupe
· Sonata Hybrid
·Accent
· Azera
· Veloster
· Santa Fe
· Equus
· Veracruz
Tucson
Tucson Fuel Cell
· Santa Fe Sport

The cars covered by the recall include models between 2011 and 2015.

Hyundai says it has reports of 21 fires and 21 other thermal incidents since 2017. For its part, Kia has reports of at least 10 confirmed fires and melting incidents.

At this time there are no reports of accidents, injuries or deaths or accidents related to the recalls, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) asks owners to heed the recommendations of the auto manufacturers and park the vehicles in safe locations until repairs are made.
