A 14-year-old student was arrested at a Bronx (NYC) school yesterday after police discovered a loaded gun on the back of the motorcycle he rode to class on and that had been stolen.

According to the NYPD, the firearm was found around 10 a.m. outside the JM Rapport School Career Development school on Jackson Avenue in the Mott Haven neighborhood.

School security officers said that since Wednesday they saw the student on the motorcycle acting suspiciously. Yesterday he returned in the same vehicle and parked it behind the school.

The agents, concerned about his behavior the previous day, investigated and found the loaded pistol hidden inside the motorcycle. The student, whose name is not being released due to his age, was taken into custody.

The police then discovered that the motorcycle had been stolen and was also seized. The teen was charged with criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of stolen property, reported New YorkPost.

All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Young people are protagonists in armed violence in New York as victims and perpetrators, particularly shootings and attacks with knives. In September 2022 an NYPD report found that recidivism among teenagers had increased dramatically over the past five years and the number of gunmen and their underage victims had tripled.

Last week three students were stabbed outside a public high school in Brooklyn after leaving class yesterday and another student was arrested. Schools Chancellor David Banks commented hours later, saying: “Once kids leave school on the block, around the corner, on the streets, things keep happening… So we have a lot of work to do. do to ensure the safety of all our children.”

Days earlier, an alleged text message with a threatening tone led to a knife attack that left a student injured at a high school in Queens.

Even during summer school, a 14-year-old student was assaulted by a group and stabbed in the stomach in broad daylight outside a school in Queens last month.
