The New York Mets play the Philadelphia Phillies in the last series of the Major League season at Citi Field, but due to the storms that hit the city, the match was postponed.
It will now be part of a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 4:10 p.m.
The Mets postponed Friday’s game about eight hours before the scheduled start time.
The Mets’ game against Miami on Thursday was suspended due to rain at 12:58 a.m., with the Marlins leading 2-1 in the top of the ninth inning. Miami had scored twice in the ninth inning when the game was stopped with two outs and two runners on base.
The game was suspended after a delay of 3 hours and 17 minutes. If it is necessary to determine the wild card race in the National League, it would be completed on Monday at 1:10 p.m. If the wild card race was already decided, the game would not be over and the score would stand after eight innings, giving the Mets a 1-0 victory.
Marlins manager complained
The suspension due to rain in the game between the Miami Marlins and the New York Mets at Citi Field in the final stretch of the 2023 MLB season put the playoffs of some teams in serious trouble and the visitors’ manager exploded against the staff in charge of the field after the suspension due to rain.
In a video shared by ‘Talkin’ Baseball’, Skip Schumacher could be seen coming out to the diamond to complain to those in charge for not letting them finish the match that was in the last inning.
Miami, which is in contention for a wild card spot, led 2-1 with four outs remaining when the delay began at 9:41 p.m. The field tarp was briefly removed at 12:20 a.m. which Schumaker became involved in a temperamental conversation with umpire team leader Alfonso Márquez.
