Brazilian Antony dos Santos will return to Manchester United training from this Saturday, September 30 after having interviewed with the Greater Manchester Police. As confirmed by the Premier League club itself in a statement, “since the first allegations were made in June, Antony has cooperated with police investigations in both Brazil and the United Kingdom, and continues to do so.”
“Manchester United have decided that (Antony) will resume training at Carrington and will be available for selection while police investigations continue. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case,” he noted.
Antony will not play against Crystal Palace this weekend, but coach Erik ten Hag said in a press conference that the Rio native would return to training on Saturday and clarified that his return would not affect his team’s preparation for the game.
“As a club we condemn acts of violence and abuse. “We recognize the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation and recognize the impact that these accusations have on survivors of abuse,” the club noted in the statement.
Antony remains under investigation by Greater Manchester Police after his ex-partner Gabriela Cavallin reported that he attacked her on different occasions between June 2022 and May of this year. For his part, Antony denies all the accusations against him.
Coach Erik Ten Hag said at a press conference that “it was clear in the statement. No, I don’t think it’s a distraction. We will focus on the games. He (Antonio) will too. On Saturday he will train again.”
