Two migrants died and several were injured during an attack with firearms on Cuchumá Hill, in the state of Baja California, Mexico’s border with the United States, the Mexican National Migration Institute reported this Friday.
Rescue and security officers helped 11 people who managed to leave the mountain after the incident, which occurred in the early morning hours, the authority said in a statement.
The Control, Command and Communication Center of the city of Tecate issued the alert after receiving the report from the survivors, so Grupos Beta officials mobilized to the site. Other security and rescue organizations also participated in the procedure.
Before dawn, the personnel went up to the point where the attack would have occurred. At that site, they located a migrant injured by a firearm and two other dead citizens, all of Mexican nationality.
Of the people helped, it was learned that two women were taken to nearby health centers to be treated for gunshot wounds. The group was trying to reach the United States.
The Mexican institute did not clarify whether all the migrants attacked with firearms on the border between Mexico and the United States were Mexican nor did it explain the context in which the event originated.
Dozens of migrants have reported being victims of organized crime groups.
Recently, the International Organization for Migration reported that the variety of nationalities crossing from Mexico to the United States has been reinforced after the expiration of Title 42 last May.
