Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, known for its stunning natural beauty, has been hit by a heartbreaking tragedy: two lives were tragically lost in a grizzly bear attack, Parks Canada confirmed in an official statement.

The incident came to light on Saturday night when Parks Canada received an alert from a GPS device, indicating a bear attack originating within the boundaries of Banff National Park.

According to the Reuters agency, the attack occurred in the Red Deer River valley, located west of the Ya Ha Tinda ranch.

Unfortunately, the prevailing weather conditions at the time made deployment of the helicopter impossible. Consequently, the response team embarked on a challenging overnight land journey to reach the specified location.

Arriving on scene during the early hours, the response team was faced with the devastating discovery of two deceased people. Later, due to the bear’s aggressive behavior, the team made the difficult decision to euthanize it.

In response to this tragic event, an area closure covering the Red Deer and Panther Valleys has been enacted and will remain in effect until further notice, Parks Canada confirmed.

Banff National Park, a sanctuary of natural wonders that attracts more than four million tourists annually, is inhabited by brown and black bears, reminding visitors of the untamed beauty and inherent dangers of nature.
