A New Jersey resident purposely drove his SUV into a home and the municipal police department offices last week, authorities said.
Fortunately, no one was injured in both accidents, which took place on September 20, the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office explained.
However, at least one officer narrowly escaped being run over when John Hargreaves, 34, entered the Independence Township police headquarters, causing significant damage.
Hargreaves’ car raised its arms and appeared to be celebrating as the Guns N’ Roses song “Welcome to the Jungle” played loudly on the vehicle’s stereo while officers placed handcuffs on him.
The incident at the police station occurred minutes after the man crashed into the garage door of a home in Liberty Township, an act that, according to prosecutors, was intended to harass the owner, whom Hargreaves knows, NBC New York.
Later, he drove to the Independece police station because it was closer to the house, prosecutors explained.
Hargreaves is charged with robbery, criminal mischief and a weapons charge in the two crashes. Additionally, he faces charges of terrorism, aggravated assault and causing widespread injury or damage stemming from the accident inside the police station.
Officials have not released a possible reason for the accidents. They indicated that the man was still behind bars on Friday.
