Eddie Jordan, former owner of the defunct Jorgan Grand Prix Formula 1 team, gave his point of view on the rumor of the possible departure of Mexican Sergio “Checo” Pérez from Red Bull.
Although several managers of the Austrian team have confirmed the continuity of the Mexican driver for next season, there are many motorsport protagonists who want to predict what will happen to the future of the “Checo”.
Jordan, who gave Michael Schumacher his first chance in Formula 1, said in statements reported by Marca that in his opinion, “if you are going to change Checo Pérez, I would change him for someone absolutely new who has a really bright future.”
In that sense, the former British manager who has been known in recent years for his predictions, pointed to the young AlphaTauri talent Liam Lawson (who is driving while Daniel Ricciardo recovers from his injury) as a possible replacement for Pérez at Red Bull.
Jordan even compared Lawson to Sebastian Vettel, noting that he needed very few races to be competitive. “Lawson has that ability too. “I think he, whether next year or the year after, should end up at Red Bull,” said the Briton.
In Singapore, Lawson took his first two points in Formula 1 and a week later, in Japan, he finished in eleventh position.
