Mexican boxer Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez achieved an impressive victory this Saturday, September 30, to retain his undisputed super middleweight title after defeating the American Jermell Charlo. However, in recent statements, the fighter from Guadalajara was not entirely happy with the result he obtained at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

What happens is that the Aztec boxer considered that Jermell Charlo did nothing to try to beat him in the fight played on American territory; He made these words known during the post-fight press conference by stating that on many occasions fighters fail to have the expected performance in the ring and this was what made it easier for him to beat him by unanimous decision.

“That happens to many fighters, but it is not something that is in my mind, that he went out alone to survive. I did my job. I think he didn’t do anything to win. That was my plan, to neutralize everything he tried to do. He is a good left-handed counterpuncher. I tried not to let him hit me with that punch. Sometimes fighters fail to do anything in a fight,” he said.

“He went out to move, to get hit as little as possible. He is a good fighter, not for nothing is he undisputed too, so credit must also be given to Jermell. It’s 12 rounds to show who is better in 12 rounds. In boxing sometimes a knockout happens and sometimes it doesn’t. It wasn’t possible on this occasion, because we also have a great fighter in front of us, who knows how to move very well. We did our job and I’m very happy with what I did. Sometimes he can’t be knocked out, and that doesn’t mean it’s bad,” Canelo added.

Charlo, who rose from 154 pounds to 168 pounds to be able to face Canelo Álvarez, wanted to make history by becoming a double undisputed boxing champion; Despite this, he acknowledged that it turned out to be quite difficult to maintain the pace of the fight due to the increase in weight and that this was made worse by the inactivity time he had in the ring (he had not fought in a fight for a year and a half).

Canelo Álvarez managed to demonstrate an impressive sporting ability that allowed him to take complete control of the confrontation and obtained victory on the scorecards with a score of 119-108, 118-109 and 118-109 against the American, who did not show his best performance in the ring.

This duel allowed the man from Guadalajara to put an end to rumors about his alleged sporting fall in the rings, because he managed to defeat one of the most sought-after fighters at 154 pounds.
