Dorothy Hoffner, a Chicago woman, has etched her name in the annals of history by becoming the world’s oldest skydiver at the age of 104.

Hoffner’s adventurous spirit took flight when, at the age of 100, he experienced his first thrilling skydive. But for his next feat, she aimed higher and set her sights on a world record, a goal that would redefine his limits.

Four years after her initial jump, Dorothy Hoffner achieved her dream with the help of tandem jumper Derek Baxter. Together, they embarked on a historic skydive in Ottawa, Illinois, witnessed by an enthusiastic crowd of supporters, according to the Chicago Tribune.

As the adrenaline-filled jump concluded, footage captured the triumphant trio (Hoffner, Baxter and a friend) waving to the jubilant spectators who had gathered to witness this extraordinary milestone.

Footage also showed the 104-year-old taking a bow, acknowledging her well-deserved applause.

In an interview with FOX 32 Chicago after his skydive, Hoffner shared his joy with the crowd and the press. When asked about his feelings upon returning to dry land, he exclaimed: “Wonderful. But up there it was also wonderful.”

Describing the experience as “lovely” and “wonderful,” he couldn’t help but express his satisfaction. Reflecting on what’s next for her, Hoffner remained as adventurous as ever, hinting at a possible third jump and even an exciting hot air balloon excursion, a first for her.

With humility, she referred to her unofficial world record and stated: “As if she were old.” However, she reminded everyone that age is just a number and thanked the press and public for being a part of her special moment.

“Thanks for being here. I think it’s very wonderful of you,” he said, adding that being in the spotlight was “a little strange” for someone who wasn’t used to such publicity.

Prior to Hoffner’s achievement, Rut Linnéa Ingegärd Larsson of Sweden held the title of world’s oldest skydiver, recognized by Guinness World Records, when she accomplished a similar feat at the age of 103 in May 2022. Skydive Chicago is currently collaborating with Guinness to officially certify Hoffner’s jump.
