For the third consecutive year, the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) will honor two of the most important footballers in the history of sports throughout the month of October: the Argentine Diego Armando Maradona and the Brazilian Edson Arantes do Nascimiento, better known as Pelé. .

Considered two of the best footballers of all time and who coincidentally share October as their birth month, Maradona and Pelé will be honored in the “Month of 10”, a Conmebol initiative that aims to “highlight the history of the two players.” who gave meaning to the number 10 shirt during his career.”

As part of the Month of the 10th, Conmebol will also commemorate the birth anniversary of both world football legends: Pelé was born on the 23rd and Maradona on the 30th.

According to the statement issued by the highest rector of South American football, the tribute will include “historical audiovisual materials with their best moments on the fields and statistical data of both players” that will be shared on all Conmebol social networks.

“In the immensity of the South American continent, where the passion for soccer is more than a simple obsession, Pelé and Maradona are the embodiment of talent and genius,” the institution wrote on its X account (formerly Twitter) accompanied by an image of both legends in heaven.

Maradona died on November 25, 2020 at the age of 60 and Pelé left the earthly plane on December 29, 2022 at the age of 82.
