The Kremlin is reportedly preparing to unveil President Vladimir Putin’s campaign for a fifth presidential term at an economic expo next month.

The announcement is expected to take place at the “Russia” exhibition, where regions and cities will show their economic achievements, despite international sanctions. The event will take place at Moscow’s VDNKh pavilion and exhibition center, a historical monument, according to The Moscow Times.

While Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov neither confirmed nor denied the reports, speculation is emerging about Putin’s candidacy in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for March 17, 2024.

Putin’s decision to keep his election plans secret until the last moment is in line with his preference for the government to function without distractions from the campaign, despite the Kremlin’s effective campaign activities.

The Kremlin has begun compiling lists of influential Russians to campaign for Putin by proxy, aiming to boost support for his candidacy.

The launch of the exhibition will send a message that Russia is on the right path, facing challenges, but ready to overcome them through unity and traditional values, according to Russian political strategist Konstantin Kalachev.

In a move choreographed at the VDNKh exhibition, Putin “will be asked to run for another term” and he will respond accordingly, the independent news outlet Vyorstka reported in July.

By informally launching the campaign at the VDNKh exhibition, the Kremlin aims to send a message to Russians that the country’s development is on the right path and that Putin should therefore continue to lead it, the Russian political strategist said. Konstantin Kalachev to The Moscow Times.

“[El evento indicará que] “Russia, as a civilized country, is within a circle of enemies, but it is ready to overcome all difficulties,” Kalachev said. “All that is needed is the unification of society and Putin as leader: ‘Unity and traditional values will help us all.'”

“The exhibition as an element of expansion of social optimism [y la] election of trustees as confirmation of unity: a lightning campaign with the promise of victory,” Kalachev said.
