A Missouri woman is accused of recklessly driving a vehicle about 7 miles at various speeds with her husband hanging from the hood.
A Berkeley Police Department report initially released by The Smoking Gun this week indicates the incident was reported after a verbal argument on Thursday. That day, Stephanie Boyd, 38, left the home she shared with her husband in Vinita Park, entered the car and started when it was on the engine cover.
The man, 31, allegedly thought his partner would stop, but the woman left the residence with him on the hood. Boyd allegedly drove on Interstate 70 toward St. Louis International Airport.
On that route, he accelerated for about 4.6 miles before taking the exit near the airport and continuing on his way on local roads.
Authorities further allege that the woman also drove to a construction zone with the man in the car.
Boyd’s actions in turn sparked a police chase that lasted half a mile.
The woman faces charges of first-degree domestic assault and resisting arrest.
He was held on $100,000 cash bail.
It is unclear if she paid it or if she is still being held in the St. Louis County Jail.
If convicted, she faces 15 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
