Authorities in Maryland have not yet arrested suspects in a shooting near Morgan State University in Baltimore that left five people injured.
Information that has not yet been confirmed by the Police indicates that there are at least three people involved in the shooting reported at around 9:30 pm yesterday.
The motive for the crime is also unclear.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley and university police chief Lance Hatcher said at a news conference last night that police officers were patrolling the area when they heard gunshots across campus.
The attack was reported in a student residential building.
At the scene, officers discovered four men and one woman, between the ages of 18 and 22, with non-serious gunshot wounds. Four of the victims are students at the university center.
Late last night, authorities indicated that the incident was no longer considered an active shooter event. At around 12:30 a.m. today, the university administration had lifted the shelter-in-place order.
Initially, around 10 p.m., authorities reported an active shooter in the area.
“BPD is on the scene of an active shooter situation in the 1700 block of Argonne Drive,” the Baltimore Police Department said on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter. “We are asking everyone to shelter in place and avoid the area,” they added.
The incident occurred just three days before the university’s homecoming festivities were to take place.
