Toys R Us is planning its return to the United States with 24 new brick-and-mortar stores, plus smaller units that will be in airports and cruise ships. The latter will be available starting this upcoming Christmas season.
The company that owns Toys R Us, WHP Global, announced that Toys R Us’ goal is to open up to 24 flagship stores next year in the country’s main cities.
The first store to be located in an airport will open in November, just in time for Christmas. You will be in Terminal A at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, which is one of the busiest airports in the world.
“The Toys R Us brand is growing rapidly and our expansion into the air, land and sea is a testament to the strength of the brand,” said Yehuda Shmidman, president and CEO of WHP, according to CNBC.
It is worth mentioning that Toys R Us ran into financial problems and filed for bankruptcy in 2017. At that time, they owned around 1,691 stores and also allowed 257 other stores in 38 countries to use their brand under license.
WHP purchased a majority stake in the parent company of Toys R Us in 2021.
WHP said that although they will open new stores, the one they have in New Jersey will remain the largest.
Toys R Us still generates more than $2 billion in global retail sales annually, WHP said.
