The German shepherd that President Joe Biden, Commander, received as a gift after the death of his previous pet, was expelled from the White House and his future is being evaluated, after reports of bites against Secret Service agents.

The first lady’s spokesperson, Elizabeth Alexander, confirmed the news on Wednesday, something that has received criticism from environmental organizations, which have called for an alternative solution to be found for the dog.

Commander’s expulsion came after a CNN report that revealed that the German shepherd was involved in more than 11 incidents, the main victims of which have been members of the Secret Service, but other members of the White House have also been bitten.

In recent months, some of the attacks have been reported in national media, including the most recent one in late September, when the Commander bit an agent, requiring medical attention.

It was reported from the White House in July that the Bidens were thinking about subjecting Commander to special training to correct his behavior, but this Tuesday CNN said it had no knowledge of whether it had been carried out.

Commander’s arrival at the White House occurred in December 2021 as a gift to the president’s family for Christmas, after the death of Champ, another German shepherd who was with them for 13 years.

In 2018, the Bidens had to take similar action with Major, another German shepherd who was transferred to their residence in Delaware after attacking a member of presidential security.
