A woman named Linda Benefiel from the city of Fuquay-Varina in North Carolina hit the jackpot and won a grand lottery prize of $200,000, although her husband initially thought it was only $200.
“It was surreal and just overwhelming. We are still amazed,” said the lucky woman when she went to collect her prize at the state lottery headquarters.
Benefiel said that after a hard day of work, she came home at night and her husband surprised her with a scratch-off lottery ticket from the Lightning 7’s game.
The man had bought it for him to relax after spending a stressful day.
“My love bought it for me. He said for some reason one caught his attention,” Benefiel said.
Her husband had purchased the lottery scratch-off for $5 at a store called Chalybeate, located on US 401 North Street, in the city of Fuquay-Varina.
The woman said that when she saw the money she had won, she began to scream with joy and told her partner to look at the big prize they had won.
“He got really excited and said, ‘Did we win $200?’ I said, ‘No, we won $200,000. The next thing I know we were both crying,” the winner said.
Benefiel went to the lottery headquarters in the city of Raleigh to collect his prize. After paying the required taxes, he ended up taking home $142,501.
The Lightning 7 game launched in June offering six top prizes of $200,000. Three prizes of $200 thousand dollars remain to be claimed.
