The owner of the UFC, Dana White, gave some controversial statements in which he describes as “shameful” the Showtime production of the fight in which Canelo Álvarez won by unanimous decision against the American Jermell Charlo.
“If Bellator still exists, it’s not a bad thing. It’s a good thing, but if you look at all the shit we take about a lot of things, they’re owned by fucking Viacom. Do you know how much money these guys have? “Why would they go out of business unless they’re just tired of doing it, because you hear rumors about Showtime too, not just Bellator?” White said.
And he confirmed: “You know what I think of Showtime as a company, it’s no secret. Again, I could go on for days about his production on Saturday. You tried to do it better, I noticed that Showtime, I noticed that you tried to do it better, but you guys still suck.”
White’s comments are not surprising as he has been vocally at odds with Showtime Sports president Stephen Espinoza since the two worked together to promote Floyd Mayweather’s superfight against Conor McGregor in 2017.
“If any of you were at home watching that fight that night on Showtime, you were trying to get more replays; His repetitions were so bad that there was a series of repetitions in which, in both repetitions, no one fell,” he said.
And White closed: “You have the commentators trying to talk about what’s going on and they were terrible replays. When you know the production, they are a major damn chain, is that the damn product you are presenting?”
