Links and press articles shared on platform

The widespread interface change between October 3 and 4 had already been detected by some media during a test in mid-August.

Twitter owner Elon Musk said at the time: “This is coming directly from me. The aesthetics [de la red social] It will improve enormously,” he wrote.

The change is retroactive and also applies to links shared in the past.

The click is on the image

When a user shares a news article, only the media name appears in the lower left corner of the illustration image. To access the content, you must click on that image.

Elon Musk, who bought the social network last year, is trying to stem the decline in its advertising revenue by encouraging users to spend more time on the platform and share fewer external links.

The billionaire, owner of Tesla and Starlink, has been accused of maintaining a hostile attitude towards the media. Many of these have announced that they were leaving the platform.

Musk and distrust in the press

On October 3, Elon Musk stated that he “practically never consulted the traditional press.”

“What interest is there in reading 1,000 words about something that has already been shared on X several days before?” he commented.

However, in September, the European Commission presented a study indicating that platform of misinformation in their publications.”

This summer, Twitter was also reported to French justice by the Agence France-Presse (AFP) and three French press groups that want to obtain elements to negotiate remuneration for the use of its content, even if it is excerpts.
