Comedian Chris Rock will be in charge of directing the new biographical film about Martin Luther King Jr., reported Variety.
Rock, 58, and Steven Spielberg are in the final phase of negotiations to make the biopic about the African-American civil rights defender.
The project is backed by Universal Pictures, which acquired the rights to Jonathan Eig’s biography “King: A Life,” considered the definitive biography of the icon.
Eig’s book uses new information from the FBI and hundreds of interviews to offer an in-depth look at King, presenting him as a “brave but emotionally disturbed individual who advocated for peaceful protest while grappling with his own weaknesses and facing government persecution.”
Spielberg, 76, will executive produce through Amblin Partners, with Kristie Macosko Krieger producing.
So far, neither the title nor the cast of the film about the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. has been announced.
It should be remembered that Chris Rock already has experience as a director in films such as: ‘Head of State’ (2003), ‘I Think I Love My Wife’ (2007) and ‘Top Five’ (2014).
