The Mexican Red Bull driver, Sergio “Checo” Pérez, congratulated Max Verstappen this Saturday for winning the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship after the Dutchman finished second in the Qatar Grand Prix Sprint.

In statements after the competition, which serves as a prelude to the Qatar Grand Prix itself, Checo Pérez pointed out and highlighted the great work that Verstappen did behind the wheel of the Red Bull this 2023 season.

“First of all, I want to congratulate Max; He’s done a tremendous job and worked really hard, along with the team, so I’m happy for them. The way Max has driven has to be one of the best in the entire history of this sport,” said Tapatío.

He later complemented his comment by explaining that all the achievements and congratulations he receives are well deserved for having been the most consistent in each circuit and this is demonstrated by the 407 points he has accumulated, unattainable for the 223 that Checo himself has accumulated.

“He has driven at another level. He has been outstanding; and he deserves all the success and recognition that he receives,” he added.

Finally, he referred to the accident he suffered and which caused him to be left out of the race.

“Mine was a shame. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time; and there is nothing she could have done, unfortunately; and I ended up with serious damage to my car. It was a frustrating afternoon (night) because I think we had the pace to score good points. Now I need to recover with a view to tomorrow, do my best and come back as strong as I can,” she concluded.
