FIFA’s controversial decision to hold the 2030 World Cup in Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay was not liked by many protagonists in the history of football, including the legendary former Paraguayan goalkeeper José Luis Chilavert.
Seen by many as a way to please all the candidates, Chilavert went one step further and went to his X account (formerly Twitter) to harshly attack the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), accusing the institution of “corrupt.” ”.
“Corrupbol took the Copa Libertadores Final to Europe and now the World Cup final, total failure, South America deserves respect and the World Cup should be in Uruguay. Where is (Alejandro) Domínguez? “It is a total failure,” the second highest scoring goalkeeper of all time with 62 goals in a 20-year professional career posted on the X account.
The former Paraguayan goalkeeper believes that the 2030 World Cup should be played in its entirety in Uruguay on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the celebration of the first World Cup.
Chilavert, who received numerous expressions of support on social networks after his words, also attacked another Paraguayan soccer legend Nelson Haedo Valdéz for thanking Conmebol for the efforts for Paraguay to host the 2030 World Cup.
In an Instagram post where Valdéz thanked Conmebol, Chilavert does not hesitate to respond: “Nelson, I thought you were intelligent, you ended up being a vile scrounger of the corrupt in football. “You defend Domínguez because he gave your sister a job in CORRUPBOL, you should be ashamed of hitchhiking to the World Cup, they are killing soccer in South America and you defend the corrupt,” he stated.
