An Arizona judge sentenced Desiree Castadeña to 15 years in prison for allowing her 12-year-old daughter to be raped by her 24-year-old ex-boyfriend until he got her pregnant.
Castañeda pleaded guilty last month in Tulsa to child neglect and permitting sexual abuse of a minor.
This week, she was sentenced. Once she serves her sentence, she must register on the sex offender list, although she was not required to be under supervision when she leaves prison.
The Fox 23 report this Monday indicates that the rapist, identified as Juan Miranda-Jara, was convicted of that crime in March of last year, and is serving a 20-year prison sentence.
He must also register as a sex offender once he completes his sentence.
“The facts in this case are incredibly sad. Children should be able to turn to their parents to protect themselves from people like Juan Miranda-Jara. It’s appalling that Desiree Castañeda allowed this to happen. Both defendants in this case are facing the consequences of their actions and will serve time in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Our hope is that the victim can put this horrible chapter in her life behind her,” the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
The minor’s father is in prison for another sexual crime and does not have a relationship with his daughter, the Tulsa Police Department said.
According to personnel from that office, Miranda-Jara allegedly boasted that he was going to be a father. The man alleged that he was in a romantic relationship with the support of the minor’s family.
The victim’s family even held a baby shower for her. The aforementioned television station has an image of both at the event.
In addition, both linked their Facebook accounts with the information that they were in a relationship.
