This Friday the World Series began at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, a match that the Texas Rangers won in extra inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a score of 6-5 and take advantage on the road to the Major League championship.
The match pitted Zac Gallen on the mound for the Arizona franchise and Nathan Eovaldi for the locals. The Rangers went ahead in the first inning with a double by Evan Carter to bring Corey Seager home. Then a single by Adolis García brought Carter in from second and it was already 2-0 early in the game.
Eovaldi, like the first inning, retired the second inning in a dominant manner by way of one, two and three. The third inning would be where the D-Backs woke up and started the offense with a single by Alek Thomas.
Another hit by Evan Longoria and a bunt by Geraldo Perdomo put men at second and third. The bases were cleared by Corbin Caroll who hit a triple all the way to center field to tie the scores. Ketel Marte brought Caroll home and Arizona turned the game around.
In the same third inning the Rangers mounted a serious threat after a walk to Seager and a double by Carter to put men on third and second. Adolis García and Mitch Garver walked and the game was 3-3 with that forced run.
But parity did not last long, because at the top of the fourth inning Tommy Pham hit a solo home run to put his team ahead.
To open the fifth inning the D-Backs expanded the lead starting with a single by Geraldo Perdono and after a stolen base and a double by Ketel Marte; Arizona brought the fifth line of the night.
Zac Gallen’s performance on the mound continued in good shape and he retired his fifth and final inning by way of one, two and three to give the D-Backs peace of mind.
The Arizona relief team did a good job on the mound and between Ryan Thompson, Joe Mantiply and Kevin Ginkel they kept the Rangers’ bats at bay to not allow any more runs. However, Paul Sewald came out to close the game and a home run by Corey Seager with Leody Taveras tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning.
With the tie, the match in Arlington had to go to extra innings. The pitches of both teams managed to get the zero in the tenth inning. But as Adolis García closed the 11th inning with a solo home run to right field, he left the D-Backs on the field and the Los Angeles team took the first game of the World Series.
With this result, the Rangers will welcome the D-Backs again tomorrow in Arlington, Texas, for the second game of the World Series.
