The sanction against the Italian Sandro Tonali was confirmed. The midfielder was banned for ten months without being able to play in any competition, as confirmed this Saturday by Newcastle United.
The sanction imposed by the Italian federation (FIGC) establishes a total ban of 18 months, although the sanction could be reduced by eight months for Tonali’s participation in a therapeutic plan.
As explained by the club in a statement, confirmation was received from FIFA that the Italian federation’s sanction will be applied worldwide, so Tonali will be able to return to the competition as of August 27, 2024.
Confirmation of the penalty comes despite Newcastle manager Eddie Howe saying yesterday that there was a “very good chance” that Tonali would be available against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“We have not yet received official confirmation. We have seen the news, the rumors, but we have not received anything from the Italian authorities. “We are in limbo waiting for confirmation to come,” Eddie Howe said at a press conference.
