The first of the World Series between the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks was won by the Arlington team. Although beyond the result, it was the form. Well, in the ninth inning the locals tied it and in episode 11 they left the Arizona team on the field.
But despite the painful defeat, the desert team continues with the same spirit regardless of the setback in Texas and will have to get up and aim for the second game this Saturday again in Arlington. To seek to bring the even series home.
One of the stars of the team, the Dominican Ketel Marte, who drove in two runs in the first game, remains positive despite not starting the World Series on the right foot. “It’s ball. “These are things that happen,” commented the second baseman for MLB.com after the meeting.
“What we have to do is continue playing the game. Go with the same intensity, we had a good game. We came from 2-0 from Philadelphia and we were able to win the series. Why not them? There is still a lot of ball left,” analyzed the Dominican.
Marte also reached 17 consecutive postseason hit games this Friday and equaled the record of Manny Ramírez, Derek Jeter and Hank Bauer as the only players in the history of the Major League postseason to hit that number of hits consecutively.
The cabals that make the D-Backs dream
The last Major League title for the Arizona franchise was in the 2001 season. On that occasion a series of events happened that coincidentally are being repeated this season. Therefore, these coincidences invite the D-Backs to dream of winning their second World Series.
These are the title matches from 2001 and this 2023 D-Backs season.
1. Arizona’s Ace in 2001 was Randy Johnson and that season he hit a bird with a pitch. This 2023 Zac Gallen is the Ace of the D-Backs, and he also hit a pitch against a bird.
2. The 2001 World Series schedule exactly matches the 2023 World Series schedule.
3. The All-Star Game in 2001 was in Seattle. This year it was also held in this city.
4. George Bush was in charge of throwing out the first pitch of the 2001 and 2023 World Series.
Although they may be just coincidences, it is still an invitation to dream for the D-Backs, who entered these playoffs via the National League wild card and against all odds eliminated great favorites like the Los Angeles Dodgers.
