The Red Bull driver in Formula 1, Sergio “Checo” Pérez, expressed his disappointment this Sunday at having suffered an accident that took him out of the Mexican Grand Prix in which he was looking for a victory that would allow him to celebrate in front of his fans.
In statements after his departure from the track Checo mentioned that he had hope for a great victory at home, so he could not help but feel sadness at not achieving his main goal and especially leaving so early at the start.
“I’m sad because I had a good start. I only thought about winning. I didn’t even think about the podium; I just wanted to win. I saw an opportunity and jumped at it. I took a risk, but if it had gone well I would have come out of the first corner first,” he told DAZN television station.
Checo was the victim of a collision with Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari that made him fly through the air. Fortunately, the car maintained its position in the accident and nothing occurred to regret, and he was able to leave the Red Bull without problems, although with disagreement.
“The truth is that I didn’t think Charles (Leclerc) was going to brake so late. He was centered, I was on the outside,” Checo said in reference to the clash with the Monegasque.
Finally, Checo Pérez referred to everyone who was present at the Autódromo de los Hermanos Rodríguez to show him their support, ensuring that he did not stop trying for victory at any time.
“It hurts me a lot because of all the people, but I’m going home calm, because I tried. However, yes, I am leaving sad, because I wanted to give the victory to the people,” the Hispanic concluded.
The second place that Lewis Hamilton achieved in the Mexican Grand Prix, arriving behind Max Verstappen, puts greater pressure on Checo Pérez who before the race was looking for the runner-up of drivers by accumulating 240 points but who saw his advantage reduced by – 19 for English, which now totals 220 units.
