The situation that the Colombian soccer player Luis Díaz is experiencing with the kidnapping of his parents has become an event that has shocked the entire country, to the point that the president of Colombia Gustavo Petro has contacted the player to express his support and put all the help of the authorities is available.

“We have maintained contact with the soccer player Luis Díaz on behalf of the Government, the National Police; His mother was recovered yesterday and there is every disposition, all public forces have been deployed so that her father can be recovered,” said the president.

Likewise, the Colombian National Police reported that it will offer a reward of 200 million pesos (about $50,000 dollars) to anyone who can help find the location of the player’s father or rescue him.

This Saturday afternoon it was learned that Luis Manuel Díaz and Cilenis Marulanda, father of the Colombia national team player and residents of the department of La Guajira, were kidnapped when they were traveling in a vehicle they owned through the Los Olivos neighborhood, in the town of Barrancas (La Guajira).

Immediately the security forces began to work and shortly after it was learned that they had managed to rescue Díaz’s mother, all this while the player was in England prior to the game between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, from which he was absent to travel to Colombia this Sunday.

For his part, the director of the National Police, General William Salamanca, traveled from the capital, Bogotá, to La Guajira to take charge of the situation and contacted the soccer player to let him know that they are working with all their resources to achieve rescue his father safe and sound.

“We are here in La Guajira, on an order from the president that the director guide and direct the operation to rescue his father. Yesterday we managed to rescue his mother; She is safe and sound,” Salamanca told the footballer in a phone call.
