There are three days left for Virginia residents to file their 2022 state taxes and qualify for a tax refund that can be up to $400.
Tax returns must be filed by the extended deadline of November 1 to qualify for the refund.
The extension occurred six months ago, counting from the normal deadline to file Virginia state taxes in 2022, which is May 1, 2023.
If a taxpayer filed by the regular May 1 deadline, they are not required to take additional steps to obtain the refund if they are eligible.
Depending on the state, refunds will be up to $200 for individual taxpayers and up to $400 for couples filing jointly.
Not all taxpayers in the state will be eligible for the direct refund payment.
That’s why the state has a website for Virginia residents to check if they are eligible for the refund.
State Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that tax refund distribution will begin Wednesday, November 1 for eligible taxpayers in the state.
The distribution of the money will be carried out progressively over a period of three weeks.
“We are pleased to announce that tax refunds will begin to be distributed in the coming days,” Youngkin said, according to The Washington Examiner.
“As Virginians continue to face inflation and high prices as a direct result of Washington, D.C. policies, these rebates are an important step ahead of the holiday season to help Virginians keep more of their money. hard-earned for gasoline, groceries and essential items,” he added.
Youngkin also said, “My administration has provided more than $5 billion in tax relief to Virginians, and we are pleased that these refunds provide needed relief to Virginians.”
Tax refund payments will be sent to taxpayers either via direct deposit or via paper check.
