The future of Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez in Formula 1 is one of the main topics in the opinion of specialists, this despite the fact that the Mexican driver has a current contract with Red Bull until the end of 2024.
The Italian team, which has drivers Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu in its ranks, has not been able to stand out in Formula 1 races in 2023, which is why Alfa Romeo director Alessandro Alunni Bravi is thinking about a signing that give him more prominence in the Big Top, focusing on Checo Pérez.
“He is one of the top drivers and we are looking for top drivers for the future. Checo is one of them, it is possible and it is an option… He is a strong driver, an elite driver, but we are looking at all possible options and we are not excluding anyone,” said the Alfa Romeo director before the Mexican Grand Prix.
The Italian pointed out that in the future they will look for “top-level drivers” and the man from Guadalajara is one of the options, since he is currently in second position in the world drivers’ championship.
“There is a strong platform here in Mexico, with the dissemination of the single-seater, the Formula One championship, the Telmex Team did an incredible job to bring Mexican drivers to Europe, where they can develop their skills, where they can train and compete with all the drivers. international. So I think there is good potential. The important thing is to create a good platform in the country to develop drivers and help them access motor sport. And the key is the budget,” he commented.
He also pointed out that Sergio Pérez could become a mentor for new generations of Mexican drivers. “Be the one who can help Mexican drivers repeat and continue their path. It is important that the boys have a hero and follow in their footsteps. Here there are several circuits like Hermano Rodríguez and there are also sponsors who can invest in drivers, who can support the drivers.”
Czech’s dad only thinks about Red Bull
Antonio Pérez, Checo’s father, assured that his son will remain at Red Bull for the next 10 years, although rumors indicate that the team will not renew the Mexican and is already thinking about other drivers to replace him.
The Mexican driver had a regrettable performance in the Mexican GP after abandoning the race less than 20 seconds after starting after colliding with Charles Leclerc in the first corner of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
Pérez is fighting for the runner-up position in the Formula 1 world championship with Lewis Hamilton, who finished second in Mexico and closed the gap to 20 points with three races left in the 2023 season.
