David Giglio, a businessman who competed in California’s 13th Congressional District primary in 2022, has announced his intention to run for District 20, where he seeks to replace incumbent Rep. Kevin McCarthy.
Giglio bills himself as an “America’s First Republican” and promises to “fight alongside President Donald Trump in 2024 as he WAGES WAR against the corrupt one-party,” The Hill quotes his campaign website as saying.
This ad directly attacks McCarthy, who was removed from office on October 3 when eight Republicans joined Democrats in voting in favor of a motion to vacate the presidency.
Giglio criticizes McCarthy for “not keeping his promises” and caving in to the “Biden regime” and radical Democrats, stating that Americans yearn for a change in the status quo.
“Americans are fed up with the status quo and hungry for change. I intend to do whatever it takes to fight, win and get it done!,” he said on the campaign’s donation page, according to The Hill. “Help me DEFEAT the Swamp by making a generous donation below and together we will send an America First fighter to Washington!”
McCarthy opponent
Giglio praises the Republicans who voted to impeach McCarthy, and believes it is imperative to replace career politicians with “America First Republicans” who defend border security, stop the militarization of the government and combat corruption in Washington.
“Kevin McCarthy was removed as president by 8 brave members of his party for failing to keep his promises and capitulating to Joe Biden and the radical Democrats,” Giglio said. “Kevin McCarthy must be defeated.”
Giglio, a former history professor, presents himself as a strong supporter of the MAGA movement and has repeatedly praised Trump on social media.
His platform seeks to appeal to MAGA-friendly voters in the primaries, and he views the movement as a “moderate” form of conservatism.
“Every time I hear the media or Democrats rant about ‘extreme #MAGA Republicans,’ I can’t help but laugh because we’re actually the ‘moderate MAGA Republicans,’” Giglio wrote on X, formerly Twitter, in April . “But that’s why Democrats and the media are so terrified. “Populism appeals to blocs of voters that Democrats believe they possess.”
In another post, she wrote, “This is what leadership looks like,” while sharing a post from Donald Trump Jr. about her father. “Trump was and will be the People’s President again! #MAGA.”

The former speaker of the House of Representatives, according to The Hill, is known for being a prolific fundraiser and has easily won re-election in the past.
Despite his removal as Speaker of the House of Representatives, McCarthy has stated that he will not resign and plans to run for re-election again. The primary competition promises to be an interesting challenge in this California district.
