Actor Tyler Christopher, who was married to Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004, died this Tuesday at the age of 50, as confirmed by several colleagues who worked with him throughout his career.
As reported on social media by his former co-star of the classic melodrama “General Hospital,” Maurice Benard, Tyler died of cardiac arrest at his home in San Diego.
“Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who spoke openly about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol,” Benard wrote. “We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father.”
Christopher was best known for his performance on “General Hospital,” where he appeared in more than a thousand episodes. The English soap opera’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, also confirmed Tyler’s death.
“I am heartbroken by the news of Tyler Christopher’s passing. He was kind, an incredible actor and a dear friend, loved by our “General Hospital” family and by Nikolas Cassadine fans.”
Tyler, who won the Emmy in 2016 for his role in the melodrama, was also part of an equally long-running soap opera, “Days of Our Lives.” She is survived by two sons: one born in 2009, and a daughter, in 2015.
