Whenever November 2 arrived, Julián Figueroa had the tradition of raising an altar of the dead at home to honor the memory of his beloved father Joan Sebastian. Now, Julián is the protagonist of an altar made by her mother Maribel Guardia, who still cannot believe that she lost her only child on April 9. His mother’s heart continues to cry.
“I put up an altar of the dead and it was very emotional, honestly. We did it just for Julián. We were all together. We put a guitar, a hat, the rosary, the Virgin of Guadalupe, the Virgin of the Angels of Costa Rica.
“It was a very emotional moment. We all cry, and it’s hard for me to believe that Julián is there now. I know we’re all going there, but you can’t quite assimilate it,” the actress shared.
Six months have passed since that day when she received the news about her son, but Maribel still thinks it could be a nightmare.
“You are like blocked, you think that it is not true, and when these things happen I realize that yes, it is true, that my child is there, but I know that he is in a better place.
“I know this because I had so many experiences that I saw him when I was praying the rosary, when Matilde (Obregón)’s son died, when we were praying, he started to smell like roses; I have had some things related to Julián, with rainbows, because I see rainbows all the time and for me they are messages that he is very well,” he added.
Her mother’s heart misses Julián too much
“He really liked making the altar for the dead, he did it for his father, so it’s a tradition. Julián was Mexican, he was born here, and for him it was a tradition that he saw in school since he was little, rather he passed it on to me and now with my grandson I want him to live this Mexican culture,” he said.
Maribel met with her grandson, Juliancito, to continue the Day of the Dead tradition, in a photo session where the two were made up as skulls. She, as Catrina, dressed in a black dress made by Mitzy.
