The co-creator of “Friends”, Marta Kauffman, expressed her shock at the death of Matthew Perry, actor who played Chandler Bing in the series.

In an interview with the Today show, Kauffman said Perry was happy and doing good in the world before his tragic death.

“He didn’t seem overwhelmed by anything. “He was in a really good place, which is why this seems so unfair,” Kauffman said.

Regarding the actor’s fight against addiction and alcoholism, the producer also said that the actor was feeling well and looked good.

“He looked good. She stopped smoking. Yes, he was sober. He learned things throughout this and what he learned more than anything is that he wants to help other addicts, and that gave him a purpose,” Kauffman added.

For his part, director James Burrows stated that both he and the cast of Friends were devastated by the loss of the actor, so much so that it took him a couple of days to come to terms with the actor’s death.

“He was part of a family and he was the first to stop being part of this family. He had sent a message to the boys the day we found out. They were destroyed,” said Burrows, 82.

The director of Cheers also recalled Perry’s work on Friends, ensuring that he left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.

“His facial expressions were incredible. “She was always aware that even though she didn’t speak, she was on camera,” Burrows asserted.

Matthew Perry was found dead in his Los Angeles home on October 28.
