The Mexican driver of the Red Bull team in Formula 1, Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez has been immersed in a series of rumors that claim that the Spanish Fernando Alonso would be his replacement within the Austrian team to compete in the 2024 season of the Formula 1 World Cup ; This fact was denied by Helmut Marko despite the results obtained by the man from Guadalajara in the Mexican Grand Prix.
Given this fact, the Aztec runner made the decision to put an end to the rumors on his part and offered a statement to the press in the middle of what will be the start of the Brazilian Grand Prix, a competition in which he hopes to have a better performance to be able to continue adding points in the general classification.
“I think when you’re going through a bad patch you want to focus on the racing side and there are so many rumors about my future that I don’t have the energy for that. I just want to focus on Sunday,” he commented in the South American country.
Regarding the unfortunate accident he suffered at the Mexican Grand Prix after driving in the first corner of the competition, the Mexican assured that he has felt the total support from his team and especially from the managers of the Formula 1 team who still trust in his growth as a driver for the remainder of the competition.
“The support of the team is always very important, because at the end of the day we are in this together. And having all their support always helps,” indicated the Mexican who has also been linked to the Alfa Romeo team.
Finally, Checo Pérez assured that he wants to have an impressive performance in the Brazilian Grand Prix to be able to extend the advantage he has over Lewis Hamilton (who is 20 points away after the Mexican GP) and thus be able to secure the runner-up position in the world; This would be the first time that the Aztec pilot would achieve this feat in his professional career.
“The weekend, without a doubt, I think is a great opportunity to show how strong I am mentally. As an athlete you can always go through these moments, but the most important thing is how you overcome them and how you recover from them,” concluded the Mexican pilot.
