Authorities of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) decided to call a meeting to try to change the sad images that occurred on Thursday afternoon in Rio de Janeiro.
The violent action against Boca Juniors fans, first by Fluminense fans and then by the Police, left a warning light on for what is to come.
The entity led by Alejandro Domínguez summoned directors from the Argentine Football Association (AFA), the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Fluminense and also Boca Juniors. The objective is to prevent images like those that occurred on Thursday afternoon in Rio from being repeated.
After the meeting they affirmed that everything will continue as established up to now although they will remain on alert for the events of the next few hours. The meeting, for which they guaranteed security, will be with the public and as scheduled, beyond some rumors that broke out on social networks after the events.
Conmebol, after the meeting in which Claudio Tapia (AFA), Luciano Nakis (AFA), Jorge Amor Ameal (Boca), Ednaldo Rodriguez (CBF) and Mario Bittencourt (Fluminense) participated, issued a statement indicating that “the mechanism was reviewed mechanism for fans to enter the stadium, the areas assigned to each club and the plans and perimeter deployed around the Maracaná.”
At the same time, they warned that the organization “is in permanent contact with the city and state authorities.” And they clarified: “It is essential to take extreme precautions to avoid overflows and minimize contact between fans as much as possible.” A joint video was also broadcast with both club presidents.
From Brazil they affirm that there will be “reinforced security” at the Maracaná for the match this Saturday, November 4.
