The Mexican baseball team has just won the bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Santiago 2023. With this achievement, the Aztec team rose considerably in the world ranking of the World Baseball and Softball Confederation.
The organization published the ranking update this Friday, and Mexico was positioned in the second box. Only behind the giant Japan and even surpassing the United States, who came in third place.
After Mexico’s failure in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the Aztec team began its rise and in 2023, after finishing third in the World Baseball Classic and winning gold in the Central American and Caribbean Games, they close the year with the bronze in Pan American Games and promotion to second position in the world ranking.
With this new update of the world baseball ranking, there are five Latin American countries that were among the 10 best according to the highest organization of this sport. This is the ranking.
The Pan American Games also awarded important points to Panama and Colombia, who gained two places and are now in tenth and thirteenth position respectively. Panama earned 264 points as a result of its fourth-place finish in Santiago, while Colombia added 430 points thanks to its historic gold medal campaign.
In the women’s category, Mexico rose seven positions
On the other hand, the Mexican Women’s Baseball Team also had a good performance, rising seven positions in the ranking and placing itself in fifth place on the list issued by the World Baseball and Softball Confederation.
The Mexican Women’s Baseball Team has just achieved a pass to the final of the World Cup, which will play against the United States in 2024. After the first phase that was played in Canada.
