Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has announced a new direct payment that will be available to hundreds of thousands of families in her state in 2023. The governor said this aid is the first of its kind.

Hobbs announced the new direct payment this week, months after the aid, known as the Arizona Family Tax Rebate, was enacted as part of the state’s fiscal 2024 budget.

The governor said that this refund will benefit almost 750 thousand families.

“As someone who at times relied on assistance to get by, I know that every penny counts,” Hobb said, according to the Washington Examiner.

“I promised that when I took office I would take advantage of every opportunity to make it easier for Arizonans to support their families and lower the cost of living. “I am pleased to be able to provide this relief with the Arizona Tax Refund for Families.”

The direct payment is $250 per dependent under age 17 and $100 per dependent over age 17 claimed on the 2021 household tax return.

The maximum tax refund is $750.

To be eligible, an Arizona resident must have filed a full-year resident personal tax return for the 2021 tax year, as well as claimed at least one dependent tax credit on the 2021 return.

Another requirement is to have paid at least $1 in Arizona state taxes on personal income in 2021, 2020 or 2019.

Direct payments will be sent using the family’s direct deposit information.

If the state does not have this information, a paper check will be sent to the last known address.

Deposits are expected to be made in November.
