The Union des Associations Européennes de Football, better known as UEFA, reached an agreement with Groupe Amaury, owner of the France Football and L’Équipe media, to co-organize the Ballon d’Or gala starting in 2024.
According to UEFA’s official statement, the agreement establishes that Groupe Amaury remains the owner of the Ballon d’Or brand and that it “will continue to supervise the voting system, which will remain unaltered and independent.”
However, UEFA will be in charge of marketing the global commercial rights and organizing the annual awards gala, with the aim of reinforcing the stature and global reach of these awards, according to the same statement.
Aleksander Čeferin, president of UEFA, explained in a statement that “for almost 70 years, the Ballon d’Or has remained the most prestigious individual award in the world of football and is a testament to the extraordinary skill, dedication and impact of the legends of the game and their enduring mark on the history of the sport.”
“UEFA club and national team competitions, such as the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Euro, are considered the highest global stages for elite players. “UEFA and the Ballon d’Or are synonymous with sporting excellence, so our partnership will be a natural blend of prominence and a synergy that promises to be nothing less than exceptional,” Ceferin concluded in the UEFA statement.
UEFA also reported on the new awards of the established program: Coach of the Year and Coach of the Year.
