The annoyance of the migrants, who have been in the city of Huixtla for four days, was manifested this Friday when they burned piñatas and demanded documents from the authorities that would allow them to regularize their situation in Mexico, while allowing them to advance towards the United States.
At the protest they burned three piñatas. The first with the image of Francisco Garduño, commissioner of the National Migration Institute.
There was also another with the initials of the regulatory body and the third had a symbol to denounce abuses against migrants such as rape, death and kidnapping.
During the activity, they constantly shouted “we want papers! We want papers!”, according to the information reported by the EFE news agency.
Several migrants, such as Nelson Ramos, from Honduras, said that this burning was done to “calcinate” the corruption that they claim exists in the institute. But also to obtain a humanitarian response soon.
“The goal is for them to give us the papers, because we won’t move from here until they give them to us or we see the way, because we are all, if it is one we are all,” he commented.
In the statement he added: “It is to burn all the corruption because what is the point of them being in a position, if they are doing nothing? “They should rather take them out, take care of all of us who come in the caravan.”
Salvadoran Ricardo Martínez also commented: “I feel that, for Immigration, it is not difficult for them to give a permit of at least 45 days and people can move as far as they want.”
This caravan left from Tapachula, on the southern border of Mexico, and has advanced more consistently than others that have done in previous months.
Pueblos Sin Fronteras, an organization that has supported migrants, promised a proposal for migrants on Monday of next week.
“I will walk with them and many of my companions will do so, so we are calling on those who can walk, if women and children come to take strollers (baby strollers),” said Irineo Mujica Arzate, who directs the institution in favor of of migrants.
This weekend, thousands more migrants are expected to arrive in the city of Huixtla, coming from Tapachula. This with the intention of increasing the caravan.
