This October, Taylor Swift released “1989 (Taylor’s Version)”, her announced album with 21 songs re-recorded within her project to reappropriate the lost rights to a good part of her albums.
Miami Law’s Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law (EASL) program will provide a course titled “Intellectual Property Law through the Lens of Taylor Swift,” taught by Vivek Jayaram, a renowned intellectual property attorney and co-director of the specialty Law of the Arts, the UM said in a statement.
The course will discuss topics related to copyright, trademarks, and business issues through an evaluation and analysis of Swift’s remarkable career.
“Taylor Swift is a musical and cultural phenomenon and has built an empire with some of the most valuable intellectual properties in the music business,” Jayaram said.
One of the most interesting parts of this course is the one that will address “some of the many intellectual property problems that the artist has encountered and gone through throughout her career.”
Album re-recordings, “thorny disputes” over copyright, privacy and the paparazzi, or the do’s and don’ts of contracts, “Swift’s career is a real IP 101 (intellectual property) for anyone interested.” in the creative world.”
The EASL program unifies the areas of entertainment, arts and sports, and each has industry leaders who work in collaboration with the EASL director to form the program leadership, UM added.
