Sometimes, fanaticism surpasses the limits and this was demonstrated this Sunday after the final of the Copa Libertadores that Boca Juniors lost 2-1 against Fluminense when an Argentine fan of the Xeneizes took his own life because he could not bear the failure of his team.
According to local news from Argentina, a 23-year-old police officer was found dead by his mother in his residence earlier this Monday, presumably after watching the final.
According to the information from the mother’s testimony, the young man was a fan of Boca Juniors and his passion made him make that fateful decision, the mother stating that she had previously shown signs of sadness, anger and anger when the team lost games.
“He was a fan, he was a Boca fan. If they lost he was bad, depressed. He would get bad, sad, he would give up and say that he couldn’t lose, that he was the greatest Boca. Boca is garbage, because they killed my son, he killed himself for them, and there is no player, there is no one to give me condolences,” the mother vented live to the press.
Later it was also learned that on several occasions he had told his family and especially his father that if Boca Juniors did not win on November 4, he would take his life, something that they did not think would come true if his team lost to Fluminense.
At the moment there has been no official statement from the team management or any member of the squad in relation to the case, which has impacted the entire Argentine public opinion.
Although Boca Juniors fell in the final of the Copa Libertadores, they could still save the season with a title if they manage to beat River Plate in the Champions Trophy of the Argentine Super League, in a match that was scheduled for this Sunday but has not yet been played. It has an official dispute date.
Additionally, they still have four pending matches corresponding to the local league, which they must win all if possible to seek to secure their place in the 2024 Copa Libertadores.
