Ethiopian Tamirat Tola won the 52nd edition of the New York Marathon after setting a time of two hours, four minutes and 58 seconds ahead of Kenyan Albert Korir, who made a time of two hours, six minutes and 57 seconds.

The 32-year-old runner was the winner of the elite men’s group after breaking away from the group at kilometer 32 and also set a new time record in the New York Marathon.

This is Tola’s first victory in the Major Marathon after his third places in the 2022 Tokyo Marathon and the 2023 London Marathon.

Tola also has a bronze in the 2016 Rio 2016 Olympic 10,000 meters and also has history in New York, as he finished fourth in the 2018 and 2019 editions of the race.

In the women’s category, the Kenyan Hellen Obiri won with a time of two hours, 27 minutes and 23 seconds ahead of the Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey (2:27:29) and her compatriot Sharon Lokedi (2:27:33), who was third after winning last year.

Obiri led the group of five runners made up of Viola Cheptoo, Sharon Lokedi, Brigid Kosgei and Letesenbet Gidey.
