Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States, stated this Sunday that the humanitarian pauses will help increase the flow of aid to the Gaza Strip, dominated by Hamas terrorists.

The US official made the statement from Baghdad, where he met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al Sudani.

“A humanitarian pause could also help advance that and create an atmosphere in which we can do the most we can for people who desperately need help,” Blinken said in a press conference after his meeting with Al Sudani.

The head of US diplomacy pointed out that, after the outbreak of the new conflict between Israel and Hamas last October, his country made a commitment to work to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches Gaza. The supplies had to enter the strip on October 21.

“It was a process to get that moving,” the US official acknowledged. “It’s a good thing, but it’s extremely insufficient,” he added.

The United States, Antony Blinken stated, is in contact with Israeli authorities and other Middle Eastern countries to significantly increase the inflow of aid on a sustained basis.

That, he said, could be achieved with the application of the humanitarian pauses to which Israel opposes.

“It is a process. Israel has raised important questions about how humanitarian pauses would work. We have to answer those questions and we are working on exactly that,” she said.

He added: “I think everyone would welcome humanitarian pauses, there’s no question about that. “There are obviously different points of view, including on the ceasefire issue, but there is no doubt that humanitarian pauses would be welcomed by all.”
