The Colombian footballer Luis Díaz has decided to break the silence completely about the kidnapping of his parents, and after asking for his parents’ freedom after the goal he scored in a 1-1 draw between Liverpool and Luton Town, he has decided to publish a comprehensive letter addressed to the captors, the paramilitary group known as the National Liberation Army (ELN).

Through his social networks, Díaz showed himself as the person he is beyond football, recognizing the “anguish” that he, his mother and brothers are experiencing. Likewise, he asked the kidnappers to allow his father to return safely to his people.

Full statement from Luis Díaz:

“Today the soccer player is not speaking to you, today Lucho Díaz, the son of Luis Manuel Díaz, is speaking to you. Mane my dad, he is a tireless worker, our pillar in the family and he is kidnapped. I ask the ELN for the prompt release of my father and, I ask international organizations to intercede for his freedom.

Every second, every minute our anguish grows; My mother, my brothers and I are desperate, distressed and without words to describe what we are feeling. This suffering will only end when we have him back home.

I beg that he be released immediately, respecting his integrity and ending this painful wait as soon as possible.

In the name of love and compassion, we ask that you reconsider your actions and allow us to recover him.

I thank the Colombians and the international community for the support received, thank you for so many demonstrations of affection and solidarity in this very difficult time that many families find themselves living in my country,” concludes the Colombian’s letter.

It is worth remembering that this Saturday, the ELN member, alias ‘Antonio García’, spoke for the first time about this fact, acknowledging that they were the ones who kidnapped Mr. Díaz, however he explained that it was all due to a “mistake” having done so. to obtain money for his ransom, so he assured that they will release him, although they have not done so yet.
