A survey prepared by the consulting firm Ipsos in collaboration with ABC News revealed that the majority of Americans (76%) believe that the country is moving in the wrong direction, while they see Republicans (35%) as more reliable than Democrats (25%) in managing the country’s economy.
Republican voters, reported the Efe news agency, have a poor assessment (95%) of the direction the country is taking. Then, independents (76%) and Democrats (54%) appeared. Only 23% of the citizens surveyed believe that the country is heading in the right direction.
Among the two candidates most likely to face each other again in the 2024 presidential election, one in three (33%) Americans view President Joe Biden favorably, while former President Donald Trump is only liked by 29%, according to the survey.
The economy and inflation are the top concerns for Americans, according to the ABC News/Ipsos poll conducted using Ipsos’ KnowledgePanel.
The economy, very important
Thus, 74% of those surveyed say that the economy is very important to them, while 69% point to inflation as a major concern.
The survey also shows that in terms of the economy and the fight against inflation, Americans trust Republicans more than Democrats, as also happens when asked about the management of crime and immigration.
The Republican Party “currently has an advantage over the Democratic Party in managing the economy and inflation, the issue that Americans say is most important to them; However, Democrats have an advantage on other key issues such as health care and education,” the poll notes.
Democrats are also more trusted than Republicans on issues related to climate change, abortion, gun violence, education and health care.
The pollster points out that where there has been a change compared to last year, it has been in the increase in skeptics, since “approximately three in ten, or more, do not trust” that any of the parties will do a better job than the other.
According to the survey, less than half of Blacks (49%) and Hispanics (33%) have a favorable impression of President Joe Biden, even though “both groups voted overwhelmingly for him” in the 2020 presidential election. .
According to the 2020 election exit poll conducted by ABC News, 87% of African American voters supported Biden, as did 65% of Hispanic voters.
The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted Nov. 3 and 4 and is based on a nationally representative probable sample of 949 adults ages 18 and older with oversamples among African American and Hispanic respondents.
