The Israeli Army said this Monday it had opened a new safe corridor so that Gazan civilians who still remain in the north of the Strip can move to the south.
“For your safety, take advantage of the moment to advance south, beyond Wadi Gaza,” the Arabic spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces, Avichay Adraee, said on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
Adraee wrote in X that Israel will open Salah-al-Din Street to southbound traffic between 10:00 local time and 2:00 p.m.
In the first week of the war, the Army urged the entire population of the northern part of the Strip, more than a million Gazans, to move to the south, where it claims that its military operations are more limited.
However, after a month of war, Israeli bombings continue throughout the enclave, including the south, and it is estimated that 400,000 Gazans still remain in the north, since they have not found safe routes or refuge in the southern part. , where food, medicine and drinking water are also scarce.
Israel also said it had opened this humanitarian corridor for several hours, although both Israeli troops and Hamas accuse each other of having attacked.
After consolidating their control over large areas of the north of the Strip, the Israeli Army’s ground troops yesterday reached the Mediterranean coast from the center of the enclave, fragmenting it in two and tightening their siege on Gaza City.
