The new ‘quarterback’ of the Minnesota Vikings, Joshua Dobbs, has generated an immediate impact upon his arrival to the organization, to the point of having been congratulated by NASA’s Glenn Research Center, for his great worked by leading his team’s 31-28 victory over the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday.
The research organization published a message through its account on the social network
“Congratulations Josh Dobbs on the big win yesterday! You are great on and off the field. We heard you have a new nickname: ‘Passtronaut’. If the suit fits you, wear it,” wrote the NASA deputy center.
But this congratulation and nickname does not come by chance or solely because of his sports skills, and the 28-year-old quarterback graduated as an aerospace engineer from the University of Tennessee in 2017, the year in which he received the Touchbearer award, one of the highest university honors in Tennessee for its students.
Additionally, he completed a month-long internship at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
The story of the quartereback became relevant because last week he was part of the Arizona Cardinals squad as a substitute for the injured Kyler Murray, however on Tuesday the 31st he was traded to the Vikings, his seventh team in the NFL.
The passer born in Alpharetta, Georgia, was signed due to the injury of Kirk Cousins, the main passer, who only had rookie Jaren Hall and running back Cam Akers as backup in case of an emergency.
Dobbs did not have time to practice prior to the game against Atlanta, nor study the playbook; He didn’t even know the full names of several of his colleagues on the offensive.
Before the game he met briefly with Garrett Bradbury, the center, to review his play-calling cadence, and threw a couple of throws to Brandon Powell, one of the primary receivers.
In the duel the improbable happened. Jarden Hall and Cam Akers were injured. Dobbs entered in the third quarter and made two touchdown passes, the second in the last second of the game that sealed an epic comeback with which Minnesota beat the Falcons 28-31.
Joshua was welcomed into the locker room with an emotional congratulatory speech from coach Kevin O’Connell, lifted on the shoulders of his teammates and this Monday highlighted in a NASA publication.
